Backlink Submitter
200+ curated directories + AI-personalized descriptions + real backlink discovery — the BUILD module.
What it is
The BUILD side of the Backlinks workflow. Three tabs across one purpose: earn more backlinks. (1) Directories: 200+ curated directories with AI-personalized descriptions per directory + submission status tracking. (2) Discover: pulls your real backlink profile from our 2T+ link index — domain rank, referring domains, top dofollow links — and surfaces an AI link-prospect finder that suggests 15-20 niche-specific sites likely to link to you. (3) DA-ranked: the same directories sorted by real Domain Authority. The WATCH side (anchor risk · disavow · auto-monitor schedule · health table · spam-neighborhood scanner · recover-via-Outreach handoff) lives in Backlink Monitor — an anchor-risk pill in the hero deep-links you there.
Why it matters
Backlinks are still the #2 ranking factor (after content). Directories are not glamorous, but Tier-1 ones (Crunchbase, G2, Capterra) genuinely move rankings AND drive referral traffic. The Discover tab shows who already links to you (essential for any link-building strategy) and finds new prospects in your niche. Once you've built, the Backlink Monitor module takes over for watching + auditing what you have.
How to use it (step-by-step)
Follow these in order. Each step is 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
Step 1
Open the Discover tab to see who already links to you (8 credits / 100 backlinks)
See your full profile: domain rank (0–1000, ≈ DA), total referring domains, top dofollow links, and the list of domains actually linking to you. Pick your reveal depth (50 / 100 / 250 / 500 / 1k). Cached 7 days — re-viewing is free. Failure refunds your credits automatically.
Step 2
Sort directories by real DA + force-refresh stale rows
On the 'DA-ranked' tab, work top-down — submit to the highest-authority directories first. If a directory's DA looks stale, click the refresh icon: we re-pull DataForSEO's live rank and update the shared cache so every customer benefits.
Step 3
Click 'Prepare submission' on a directory (1 credit, refund-on-fail)
AI writes a unique description tailored to that directory's audience. Banned-phrase guardrails reject AI-authorship leaks. Saved under 'Saved AI descriptions'. If the call fails quality check, your credit isn't charged.
Step 4
Or use Bulk-prepare for the top 10 directories (10 credits)
One click writes a personalized description for the 10 highest-DA directories you haven't started yet. Charged only for fresh descriptions that pass quality — failures don't cost.
Step 5
Click 'Open submit page' → submit → mark status
Opens the directory's submit URL. Paste the description, fill the form, submit, then 'Mark as submitted' (and 'Mark live' when approved).
Step 6
Use the AI link-prospect finder (1 credit, refund-on-fail)
Beyond directories, Claude suggests 15-20 niche-specific prospects for the country you pick. Forbes / NYTimes / TechCrunch and other un-pitchable giants are auto-filtered. Prospects observed linking to other sites in your niche get a green 'Verified' badge. If the AI returns nothing, your credit isn't charged.
Step 7
Watch the Anchor-risk pill in the hero
Tiny chip near the StatPills shows your Penguin verdict (healthy / low / medium / high) at a glance. Click it to open Backlink Monitor for the full anchor breakdown, the disavow generator, the auto-monitor schedule + health table, the spam-neighborhood scanner, and the one-click recover-via-Outreach handoff for Dead/Missing links.
Curated, niche-aware directory list.
Outerank ships a vetted directory list per niche. No more scraping Stack Overflow threads for "sites that still accept submissions in 2026." Each directory has a verified DA, status, and a paste-ready description slot.
- Curated by niche — not a 2018 dump
- Verified DA + status (live / temporarily-closed / paid)
- Niche-specific descriptions, not generic templates
- Updated continuously as directories die or change

Every submission monitored automatically.
Once submitted, Outerank checks each link periodically — is it still live? Did the anchor change? Is the page 404? The status pill flips to "pending" → "live" → "dead" with zero manual checking.

Anchor-text mix monitored by Brain.
Too many "exact-match" anchors = Penguin risk. Brain watches your incoming anchor distribution and flags when it drifts unhealthy. The Anchor Diversity card surfaces the risk band + a remediation path.

Why Outerank
Things link-building tools make you build the workflow around.
The directory submission workflow, end to end — not just a list of 200 URLs and a wave goodbye.
Per-directory descriptions
Tone-matched to Product Hunt vs G2 vs Crunchbase. Generic descriptions get rejected — ours convert.
Auto-monitored submissions
Every link checked periodically. Status pills update without you lifting a finger. No "is this still live?" guesswork.
Anchor-mix risk band
Outerank's Anchor Diversity card warns you BEFORE you cross into Penguin territory. Most tools don't even show this.
Niche-curated, not scraped
Our directory list is vetted per niche, not a 2018 spam dump. New verticals get added; dead directories get pruned.
Death + anchor-drift detection
Within 7 days of a link going dead OR an anchor changing, you'll know — and Brain will recommend a replacement source.
Status mix donut surfaced
One glance at the donut tells you live vs pending vs lost. Other tools bury this in a 500-row table.
What costs credits
No surprises. Browsing and viewing saved results is always free.
Pro tips
- →Watch the Anchor-risk pill in the hero. Click it for the full Penguin breakdown in Backlink Monitor — that's where the 6-bucket classifier, the risk verdict, the disavow file, the auto-monitor schedule, and the recover-via-Outreach handoff all live.
- →Don't submit to spammy directories. Our list is curated — but always glance at the DA on the 'DA-ranked' tab before submitting. If a directory's DA looks stale, the refresh button costs you nothing and updates the shared cross-customer cache.
- →Tier-1 directories take 2-8 weeks for approval; smaller ones are instant. Build a steady pipeline rather than blasting them all in one day.
- →The Discover backlink audit caches results for 7 days, so re-opening is free — only fresh reveals (or 'dig deeper' past what you've already revealed) cost credits.
- →New domains (under 6 months old) usually have 0 backlinks in our index — that's normal, not a bug. The index takes 4-8 weeks to catch up. Open Backlink Monitor and turn on the Auto-Monitor schedule so we catch your first ones the moment they appear.
- →Send the AI link-prospects straight to the Outreach Engine to draft personalized pitch emails.
Plain-English glossary
Every bit of jargon on this page, explained.
- Backlink
- A link from another website to yours. Think of each one as a vote of confidence Google counts toward your rankings.
- Directory
- A website that lists businesses/sites (like Crunchbase or G2). Getting listed earns you a backlink and referral traffic.
- Domain Authority (DA)
- A 0–100 (here shown 0–1000 as 'domain rank') score of how strong a website is. Higher-DA links are worth more.
- Referring domain
- A unique website that links to you. Five links from one site = one referring domain. Google cares more about referring domains than raw link count.
- Dofollow vs nofollow
- Dofollow links pass ranking power; nofollow links don't (but still drive traffic). We show your dofollow links.
- Tier 1 / 2 / 3
- How authoritative (and selective) a directory is. Tier 1 = strongest and hardest to get into; Tier 3 = instant but weaker.

How we compare
Honest comparison — where we win, where the big tools win.
vs. Ahrefs Backlink Checker
Ahrefs has the deepest backlink index but costs $129/mo. We draw on a 2T+ link index (very similar data) cached aggressively so cost stays at a few credits per scan.
vs. Pitchbox / Hunter
Those are pure outreach tools. We bundle: discovery + directory submission + AI descriptions + prospects in one workflow.
